10:30 AM This is Tiff's mom, Connie posting. I have been here since 6:00 last night, and just got my first chance to SEE Tiffany. It was so hard to HEAR her last night and all the hard back labor that she was going through. She is looking wonderful and relaxed now that the epideral is really working. If she needs a little relief, she pushes her "Magic Button". The contractions are still about 4 to 5 minutes apart, but when they come, she says "Piece of cake". She is dilated to 8. Her doctor (who is her midwifes husband) just came in and checked her and said she is doing great. Now that she has had a little time to rest, they have decided to start her on pitocin to get things moving along a little faster. It should bring the contractions closer together and more intense, but she is not in any pain when they come. While I was visiting with her, she asked me to check the monitor to see if our conversation was pulling away her concentration from what she was doing. Nope...still 4 to 5 minutes apart, so we talked a little while longer. She was getting hungry because she hadn't had any solid food since 3:00 this morning. The nurse explained that they do clear liquids at this time because the possibility of surgery is more imminent and they don't want her to have food in her stomache that she could asperate. That made sense, not just a rule that needed to be followed. So they brought her red jello (and there is even orange stashed away for a little variety). She said jello never tasted so good!
So the 2 of them have settled into their spots for a nap before the next faze of pushing this baby out. Tiffany keeps touching her leg or hip, and says this feels like a pillow...is this my leg? Finally the girl is in no pain...just has to ask someone to move her leg back where she wants it when it falls out of place.
