Monday morning was a bittersweet doctor's appointment. We were anticipating an opportunity to check's Eli's progress but leery at the same time because our little man was getting his first vaccinations. Eli checked in at 11.9 ounces (which was about a 2 pound increase) and 24.5 inches (which was a little over 2 inches of growth). This was great news as we had a little trouble early on with Eli gaining weight at the right pace. Much of that was probably due to mommy and baby working out their feeding relationship and now that things are going well with feeding, everything else seems to be falling into place. Eli did get his first set of vaccines as well. Mom and Dad quickly gained experience in making tough decisions with no real easy solution. We won't get into the issues surrounding vaccinations, but will say that Eli will be getting most of the recommended vaccines but Mom and Dad have decided to waive a couple and let his little immune system fight the good fight.
This weekend's Saturday had friends from Minneapolis in town. They too have recently had a baby and we were looking forward to seeing them again. Curt and Chris had a baby girl about a month ago. Curt is one of Tiff's great friends from high school. They named their little girl Taylor and she is an adorable, mellow little sweetheart. Curt and Chris had yet to see the house so Mom and Dad enjoyed showing them around. Mom cooked a great Alfredo dinner and we all enjoyed each other's company.
Fishin'
Sunday was yet another little family outing to the river to test Eli's resilience for bouncing around in his Moby wrap. We joined our friends Tynan and Janelle for a mid-afternoon outing. Tynan and Janelle are both learning to fly fish and we were certainly glad to have them along.
We weren't exactly sure what to expect on our second fishing outing with our baby boy. Would he behave? Would he sleep? Would mommy need to feed him on the river side? Would he fill his diaper and force us to expose his little tooshy to the elements while we change him? All important questions to consider but most were irrelevant. We got to the river about 1:30pm. By 2pm he was sound a sleep and remained that way for 3 hours in his Moby wrap. Mom and Dad were able to fish as we did before Eli joined us. Mom immediately hooked up with a beautiful Brookie. Mom was exceptionally excited as she hasn't had the best of "river luck" of late.
A little further down river we were greeted by a couple of other fellow fisherman who were quite intrigued by the baby strapped to the Daddy..."hey, you got a kid in there?" he yelled over as Daddy stood in the river casting into the little run across the stream. "I ain't waitin' for nothin'" Daddy yelled back. A brief conversation ensued and shortly after the attention was back to the river. This time it was Daddy's turn...
What a wonderful story to read! Last year Tiffany had the baby on her front, this year Jason has him. Great parenting!
