Apostle Islands Anniversary

This summer has been pretty crazy with the new house and getting ready for the baby. We haven't had much time to get away, but July 24th was our 5 year anniversary, so we knew we needed to take some time to celebrate. We decided to get away for the weekend to the Apostle Islands near Bayfield, WI. It was wonderful! They had an art festival going on, so we got to spend a day poking around the festival and the little shops and galleries in town looking at paintings, pottery, and all sorts of nick-knacks. That night we went out for a nice dinner in Ashland, WI where Jason gave me a beautiful anniversary ring with a stone called Padparadscha, which is a rare sapphire. We played around on the beach there before it began to rain and we had to head in. Can you see my little baby belly just starting to grow?!?
We stayed at the Apostle View Hotel that night which overlooks Lake Superior.
This is the view fr0m our hotel. There was a great porch swing out front that we spent some time on.

The next day, we woke up early and hopped on a ferry to Madeline Island. It was a beautiful place. We had been to Mackinac Island before and found that too touristy, but Madeline Island was surprisingly quiet and filled with beautiful parks and nature preserves. We decided to enjoy the beauty of the island by renting a tandem bike (a first for us). It was a blast...for the first few miles. Then, we began to realize just how out of shape we both are! The 13 mile bike ride was a little too challenging to say the least. We made the best of it, though!
Eating some breakfast before getting on the ferry.
The view of Bayfield as we were heading over to Madeline Island.
Jason got a snapshot of us while we were riding our tandem bike...can you tell I'm tired? ;)

We had such a fun time getting away from the house, the dogs, and work for a couple of days. It was great to spend time with just the two of us. It's hard to believe that we were married 5 years ago already, and that we met over 10 years ago. We have been with each other for over a third of our lives now, which is mind blowing. It seems to go by so fast! The longer we are married, the longer we realize just how lucky we are to have one another.

  2. What a fun anniversary trip - it's good you got away for your 5th and final anniversary while it's just the two of you.

My in laws live a little south of Ashland and my mother in law has a cousin who lives in a log cabin on Madeline Island. Can you believe we haven't been to the Island yet? We should really go there sometime too.
