BIG Progress

We are well on our way to redoing out entry way. We spent the last five days working diligently to make huge strides in attacking this project. Jason's mom and dad came down on Tuesday night and stayed until today (Sunday) and provided the much needed boost that got this project going. Saturday also found extra hands being lent by Keith and Lee and Jason's cousin Trever. It really is amazing how family comes together to support each other when help is needed. Thanks again to everyone for pitching in. We couldn't have gotten nearly as much done in 5 days without you all. Here's a shortlist of what we got going...

1. Gutted the entry way. This was the bulk of the work for the first 3 days and included taking down the wall to expose the stairway, removing the wall between the entry way and the living room, exposing the pocket doors, and taking down most of the walls to the existing bathroom.

Opening from the living room to the entry way...

Painting, painting, painting...the girls took on the monstrous task of painting both the living room and dining room. We went with a brilliant green that blends sharply with the rich red trimwork throughout the main level.

Trever took on the difficult task of re-outfitting the front door with a new knob and deadbolt. This is not as easy as it sounds. The old door had an original skeleton key setup that was not working. New "antique" door lock sets are outrageously expensive, so Trever cut and fitted a piece of wood into the old locking slot and redrilled the door hardware. A very nice job.

There were many other projects going on throughout the days including electrical, plumbing, framing, drywalling, and decorating. Here are some fun shots from all the hard work.

Cleaning up...

So now we have an open stairway, exposed beautiful pocket doors, a painted living room and dining room, a framed in bathroom, rewired basement, replumbed basement, and a working front door. We still have to finish hanging the pocket door for the new bathroom, drywall everything, paint the new drywall, and get the floors refinished (to name a few projects). We have a long way to go but we covered a lot of ground in a short time. Thanks again to everyone for all of their hard work.
